QuarkXPress is a publishing software that allows users to create and edit posters and flyers. You can either print these posters for display, handouts &ect or posters can be used for online web pages to create banners. The “print” and web” options on the ” New Project” pop up makes all the difference when setting up your formatting options.

1. Open QuarkXPress 7.2.
Go to File > New > Project
A pop up labeled “New Project” will appear in the center of your screen. The pop up allows the user to edit the preferences that he/she has set to create the poster . There are four preset page sizes US Letter, US Legal, A4 Letter,B5 Letter and Tabloid. The orientation ( the view someone chooses to print their papers) only comes in two different direction, portrait and landscape. Portrait refers to the uniform way of printing paper, height longer than the width of paper and is printed from top to bottom. Landscape refers to the width being longer than the height of the paper and is printed from left to right.

After editing up your preferred settings, A white layout (size of layout will vary on settings) will pop up on the screen. This layout has a numbered ruler on the top and bottom for precision, and allows users to view posters in there actual dimensions. The editing tool bar is on the left hand corner of the screen. This toolbar contains:

- Content Tool
- Rotation Tool
- Zoom Tool
- Rectangle Text Box
- Rectangle Picture Box
- Table Tool
- Line Tool
- Line Text Tool
- Linking/Unlinking Tool
- Composition Tool
- Scissor Tool
- Starburst Tool
For poster layout formatting, a toolbar is on the right hand side.
This toolbar contains:
- Page Layout
- Style sheets
- Colors
- Layers
