Music on your Apple iPhone/iPod/iPad
Have an ipod or an iphone and confused on how to put music or videos on it?
It’s actually quite simple…
First off if you don’t have itunes downloaded here from the apple website. http://www.apple.com/itunes/
1. After it’s finished downloading itunes and after you have music on your itunes via the itunes music store or another source you use to purchase music.
2. Take your apple device and connect it to the computer with your itunes through a special usb cable made for ipods and iphones. (it’s a white cable and it should have came with your ipod/iphone)
3. Your device should open up in itunes and you should be able to see it on the left hand side under “Devices” You can also rename it so you can easily identify it if more than one apple device is connected.
4. Select your device if you have not done so already and at the bottom right of the screen in the itunes box you should see a button called “Sync” (What syncing is that you sync the selected music you want from itunes to be on your device)
5. If you don’t specify a certain playlist, then your whole library of music in itunes will be synced into your device which your library can also be found on the very top left of your itunes. It contains ALL of your music within itunes.
6. Once itunes is finished syncing the device and it will say the top of itunes, you can safely remove your device from your computer. I personally like to safely “eject” my device from my computer by right-clicking the device and select eject. But you don’t have to do that if your device is just charging.
7. Plug in your headphones and enjoy your music!

Creating a playlist
A cool thing you can do on iTunes is to create a playlist of music you want. Whether it’s a genre of music you want all in one, a specific artist/band all in one, or maybe your favorite album or mix, you can easily compile all of that together and it helps organize your music.
- 1. Open up your iTunes program2. Look for a “+” symbol at the very bottom left of your iTunes.
3. The moment you click on that, a playlist will be created and allowing you to name it whatever you want.
4. After name your playlist, now you want to put music in it. Go to your library of music which is at the very top of the left hand side of iTunes.
5. Once you have decided which music to transfer, you can do of two things.
a. Drag the song you want to the playlist you just created
b. Or you can right click the song > add to playlist > and select the playlist you want it to be in.
i. And if you want to select multiple songs at once, Hold SHIFT and click a song and then click another song, so everything from the 1st song you click to the 2nd song you clicked will all be highlighted
ii. Or if you don’t want to do that, you can Hold CTRL and select multiple songs individual instead.
6. And if you want to create another or more playlists, just rinse and repeat.
iTunes Basics
What is iTunes ?
iTunes is a digital media/music player that can be downloaded for free off of Apple’s website on a PC or Mac. (www.apple.com/itunes/) It organizes and plays your digital music and video on your computer. It keeps all your content in sync. (apple.com) iTunes interfaces with all apple products including the ipod classic, ipod nano, ipod touch, iphone, ipod shuffle and ipad.
To Download follow these steps:
1. Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/
2. Click on Download iTunes
3. Select which version of iTunes your computer can run
4. Save the file.
5. When the window pops up select run.
6. Click finish
7. itunes is now installed on your computer !
Now that you have the program on your computer it’s time to put music on it. There are a few different ways to do this. The easiest way to this is to burn a cd on to iTunes. Do to this simply insert a cd into the computer. iTunes will recognize that there is a cd in the computer and it will give you the option to import. Click import and the cd will be imported into your itunes. If you do not want all of the songs on the cd you’re importing, simply uncheck the boxes next to the titles.
Another way to go about putting music on your itunes is to download it from the internet. There are many ways to do this. The safest way to do this is to go to the itunes store and download a song for $1.29.
Another option would be to use an online converter. To do this find a song you want to download on youtube copy the url and then paste it into an online converter. This one seems to work the best http://www.youtube-mp3.org/. What this website does is remove the video and just leaving the audio from the youtube video so you are able to download it to itunes or any other media player. When downloading the song from this site make sure you save it to the appropriate file so it will be in your itunes library.
The last way to download music off the internet is to do so illegally off of various sights. I would not recommend this for two reasons. 1) It’s illegal. 2) It puts your computer at risk for virus’s.
Once you have music on itunes, it’s time to sink to an ipod. This is very simple. Connect your ipod to the usb port on your computer and let it sync. This should a few seconds to a few minutes depending on how much music/video you are uploading on to ipod . When your ipod is done syncing the screen will read “ok to disconnect”. At this point disconnect your ipod and enjoy J
Using ITunes Store
ITunes store is online store where you can buy music, movies, TV shows & etc for you computer or for your Apple Devices
Here’s a simple tour of the iTunes store:
1. When you have iTunes open; access iTunes store you go to iTunes store on the left navigation bar
2. Once iTunes takes a few seconds load the iTunes store, you will be directed to the iTunes stores Main page where you can see what’s hot and new in music or movie.
3. On the top is a navigation bar where you can choose what type of media you want to download
a. Click on Music to see the new albums or songs
b. Click on Movies to see the new movies that are available for rent or buy
c. Click on TV Shows to see the latest TV Shows
d. Click on the App Store to see the new and popular apps for your iPhone, iPod and iPad
e. Click on Podcasts to see then newest podcasts.
f. Click on Audiobooks to look at the vast collection of Audiobooks available on iTunes
4. Click on what you like and iTunes will give you the chance to preview the music before you buy it
5. After you have previewed the songs or videos you’re interested in just click Buy on the right column of your music
6. Apple will then prompt you to sign in or create an account.
7. If you have an Apple account, sign in and continue; if you don’t follow the procedure and make an account
8. After you create an account, you can buy and listen to full-length audios and videos.
*Note – You must have a credit card to buy things from iTunes store.
How to use the Genius Application on iTunes
Genius is an application that is used on itunes. Once connected to the itunes store Genius allows the user to select a song, and the application recommend songs to add to your playlist based on the song that you selected. For example I selected Kenny Chesney and Genius suggested I add a few of Kenny Chesney’s top songs and various other songs by country artists. The application is great if you like a particular genre of music and you are looking to add more to your collection.
This is extremely user friendly.
1. First thing you need to do is have itunes version 8.0 or later installed onto your computer. ( to install itunes go to (www.apple.com/itunes)
2. Next go to the side bar that says Genius application. Click on either activate Genius or learn more.
3. This will bring you to the apple store. Once you are there sign in
4. Accept the terms and conditions.
5. The application will be ready to use on your personal itunes.
6. After this you will need to go back to your itunes library select a song, and the Genius side bar will start suggesting other songs to you.
*This application can also be used on any ipod. To do this hold down the center of the click wheel and it will ask you if you would like to use Genius. Select yes, select a song and your ipod will make a play list for you using the songs already on your ipod.
