Create a new movie project -

  • Choose a name for your project, and also select the directory where you would like to save your project file.
  • When you are satisfied with the project name and the location it will save, press “create”

Import the files you want to use to create the video project.

  • “Clips” can be video files or audio files. Most video and audio types are supported by iMovie.
  • To import clips, go to File and then Import.
    • If you want to import more than one file at a time, just hold the control key when clicking on each file.
    • After you are done selecting, click “open” to begin the import process, which based on the length and size of the file(s), could take several minutes

Arrangement of your video files will be done in the timeline, which are the three rows at the bottom of the screen. The top row is for video files, the second row is for audio effects (voice overs, sound effects) and the third row is intended for an audio file which runs through the entire movie, like a music soundtrack or prerecorded and arranged audio file for your video project.

Trimming audio and video files in the clip “view”

  • Playback or seek within your file and find the beginning point for your clip that satisfies you. Go to Edit and then Split clip at playhead (or keyboard shortcut Apple Key + T)
  • Playback or seek within your file and find the ending point for your clip that satisfies you. Go to Edit and then Split clip at playhead (or keyboard shortcut Apple Key + T)

  • Playback or seek within the timeline and find the beginning point for your clip that satisfies you. Go to Edit and then Split clip at playhead (or keyboard shortcut Apple Key + T)
