Blackboard Collaborate Meeting Rooms

The following message was sent to Collaborate users by the TTI unit in OIT.  Since some of you may not be on that list, I wanted to share it here.

Dear Blackboard Collaborate Users,

As you are aware, Montclair State University has selected Instructure’s CANVAS as the University’s new learning management system (LMS) and will replace the current Blackboard application effective Fall 2014. Blackboard will no longer be available at that time and all courses will use the CANVAS LMS for teaching.  As a part of this transition, we will be moving away from Blackboard Collaborate to a new, fully integrated Conferencing tool in Canvas. The University’s Blackboard Collaborate license will expire at the end of June, 2014. Starting from July 1st, 2014, all Blackboard Collaborate users should switch to use the Canvas Conferencing tool.

The Conferencing feature is directly and seamlessly integrated in Canvas. Each course and community in Canvas has convenient access to this online meeting space. It allows interaction similar to Blackboard Collaborate with video, audio, and chat communication features in addition to being able to share Powerpoint presentations as well as a desktop application view.  You will be able to record your sessions and have them accessible for students/participants for 14 days.  For more information on how to access and use the Conference feature in Canvas please review the following links:

Existing Blackboard Collaborate Recordings

If you have any existing recordings made in Backboard Collaborate, they will need to be saved by June 15, 2014 to your local computer if you would like to still be able to access them beyond that date.  This can be done by installing the Blackboard Collaborate Publish program which allows you to download your recording in a variety of formats. Camtasia Relay
If you would like to capture and record a lecture from your desktop and then be able to post the content online, we recommend using Camtasia Relay. The documentation can be found at:

The Canvas Conferencing tool will be replacing the Blackboard Collaborate staring July 1st, 2014.
